Interior Secretary Visits Alabama

Reflects on importance of people and events in that state during Civil Rights Movement.

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland traveled to Alabama last week to recognize that state’s significance in the Civil Rights Movement. She made the stop as part of a multi-state tour highlighting the advancement of equity and justice by the president’s administration. Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Shannon Estenoz joined the Interior secretary in meeting with elected officials and members of the community.

The Interior Department reported, “Secretary Haaland, Assistant Secretary Estenoz, Congresswoman Terri Sewell, and Mayor of Selma James Perkins visited the Selma Interpretive Center, where they met with key community leaders and civil rights foot soldiers who fought for voting rights in 1965.”

The department added, “Secretary Haaland, Assistant Secretary Estenoz, and Congresswoman Sewell then traveled to Birmingham, where they and Mayor of Birmingham Randall Woodfin visited the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument. Established in 2017, the National Monument preserves and interprets the events, stories, and places associated with the nonviolent struggle against racial segregation in Birmingham, Alabama, during the mid-20th century.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Haaland as she recognizes the history of civil rights and promotes justice and equity.
  • For Assistant Secretary Estenoz as she oversees the Fish, Wildlife, and Parks agency.
  • That the president and his administration would seek God’s will as they advance their national agenda.
